ARTIST OP TID BIT

There are many ways artists can get money for their craft, even in a tough economy, but most people do not know where to begin looking. My interest in grants/fellowships arose during my undergrad, during a class where a lecturer spoke to us about how to write our resumes. I honestly don't remember much from that lecture, as I have had a lot of instruction on resume writing, but I do remember one thing. The woman also introduced the idea of a "grant" to me and the availability of money both in the U.S. and internationally. She finished her lecture by pointing out that much of the grant money allocated for the arts never gets used. Thousands upon thousands of dollars per year, in fact. That was about ten years ago, and I am sure a lot of things have changed, ESPECIALLY in the economic climate of today. But as a recent graduate with my MFA in commercial photography, I struggle with these issues every day. I learned a lot about grant and proposal writing at a previous job working for an artist and I feel it is worthwhile information to share. There are a lot of sites on the Web that offer artist opportunity listings. But that is the problem. Let me emphasize these two words: 'A LOT'. My intentions with this blog are to make it a resource where artists can go to find ALL of the artist opportunities in ONE place. I also wanted to include a DAILY artist spotlight because without the artists, this blog wouldn't exist. Finally, my interest in Etsy stems from the creativity and innovation that I see everyday. I hope my blog inspires more artists to seek out these artist opportunities.
