<()> DAILY artist opportunity <()>

Call for artists and writers for Weird Tales Magazine’s summer 2010 issue featuring the theme: "Uncanny Beauty." That means specifically female imagery in the wide world of fantastica, and we're specifically asking our female contributors to take the microphone for this one. We're soliciting pitches for all sorts of creative nonfiction, fiction, and art on the topic, from first-person essays to narrative journalism to top-ten lists to flash vignettes to short black-and-white comics to full-page fantasy art, etc. (For instance: Rae Bryant, postfeminist writer of fantasy literature, has written an essay about discovering that a glamour shot from her college-era modeling days was used as a pinup poster in a scene in the "Wing Commander" space-jock movie.) Our overarching goal is to celebrate weird beauty from our own perspectives as well as to poke at the roles that beauty plays in fantastica.
Pay for nonfiction and art will range from $50 to $150 depending on size. Pay for fiction will be our standard $.03/word rate. We'd like to hear your ideas by Jan. 4; those accepted will have a draft copy deadline of March 1. Send nonfiction and art pitches to segal@weirdtales.net; send fiction pitches to Ann at weirdtales@gmail.com.

Deadline: January 4, 2010
